Hey all,
I am getting 2 wilson 1000 magnet mount antennas for my parents cars as we are taking a road trip in 2 seperate vehicles. I was wondering
1. Is the magnet powerful enough to stand my dad's 95 mile an hour driving?
2. is this, http://www.copperelectronics.com/cgi-bin/checkitout/checkitout.cgi?catalogSTORE:CKIE:prodW30-05094+ , the replacement whip?
3. Are these nice antennas.

Thanks so much.

Jake,

Yes the Magnets are more than strong enough to stay on at the slow speed of 95mph.

And Yes they are a Very Nice Antennas.

We use and have used the Wilson 1000 Mag Mounts for many years now on both our cars and trucks and never had any problems at all barefoor or running power with them.

If you are worried about scratches you can slide a Zip Lock sandwich bag over the Magnet to protect the paint.

The Wilson 1000 Mag Mount Antennas are Reilable, Dependable, Excellent Antennas.

Lon

I would highly suggest some type of thin rubber mat to place in between the magnet and paint because I had one on my ford ranger for a year and it became a permanent antenna with that truck. It's been 3 years and every other month or two I try and take it off and it gets to the point to where the paint will come off now. Just a word to the wise! Don't forget to place something in between if you're looking to keep it on for a while. 73's!!

I will be using a Galaxy 959 in dad's truck, and a Magnum 257 in moms, where i will be riding. Dad can't handle the computerized interface of the Magnum 257.

I have another question. I was in my dad's fuse box yesterday trying to find the positive. I wired the red to an open slot, and i scraped some paint away on the door latch, but it didn't work. Any advice, besides wiring it direct to a battery on a CHEVY 2000 S-10?

just because it was an empty slot dosn't mean there is any juice running to it !!! You'll have to get a 12 volt test light to find an empty one thats hot.

How do you get the wires out of the cab and into the hood area? Is there some kind of universal hole?

grommet - a flexible loop that serves as a fastening, support, or reinforcement - an eyelet of firm material to strengthen or protect an opening or to insulate or protect something passed through it

It'll be on the firewall. They're usually black and protect wiring and cables that pass through the firewall.

Rattlesnakejake,

The firewall is what separates the engine compartment from the interior of the car.

Your air conditioner, wiper motor and many other things are mounted to it.

The Steering column goes thru the fire wall, generally there is a rubber boot around the steering column on the engine side with enough room to run the wire through or you might see other areas.

Any time I run wires through the firewall I always add Heat Shrink Tube around the wires going thru the firewall as a little extra protection from any possible wear.

This also keeps the wires neat and together.

On my mom's volvo, the front cigarrete lighter is on a 20 amp fuse, and thats all thats on the fuse, could i , should i run the Magnum 257 on that? There will be no engine noise, as its a luxury 2003 Volvo, and it has 3 seperate fuse boxes, and this particular cigarette lighter is from a fuse box thats not linked to engine modules.

Rattlesnakejake,

I would not suggest using the cigarette lighter outlet.

I have seen even Heavy Duty Cigarette Lighter plugs MELT.

Do it right the first time and go direct to the Battery and save a lot of problems that coulp pop up later.

Just my thoughts.

Hey all. Here is what I have done.
I went into dad's truck with a 12 volt light. I fould the "auxiliry" slot in the fuse box, removed the fuse, and put the positive in. then , I peeled away some paint on the body under the dashboard. I hooked up the negative to the ground. Sure enough, it worked. My dad is having the truck serviced on monday. We are going to have the lady install a positive wire from the battery with a 15 amp inline fuse. Then, she will run the ground right off the battery into the cab as well as the positive. this will be fused as well. This is for the 959. Im going to have them do this to the Volvo as well for the Magnum 257, but with 20 amp fuses. Does this sound right? Any easier way? Can I just take it off the fuse box?

I don't know if it's okay to run it that way, but that's how I wired my 148 in my Huyndai. I ran the red wire to the car radio fuse, and made sure I put the black wire on a good ground. A metal screw underneath my dash.

Jake & Wendy,no problem running the cb off the aux spot in your fuse panel, thats what it is for.any auxillary products installed after the factory.
Jake, the only problem I see with your installation is the 15 amp fuse on the 959.Mine only requires a 4 amp fuse
