The problem with most speech processors is not the processor but the person using the processor.

The processor is supposed to even out the highs and lows allowing more pleasant middle range and therefore a cleaner stronger signal. In other words to make your voice sound better.

However most people, and yea unfortunately including those in the ham world, forget that the purpose of the processor is to make your voice "Sound" better. They think it is a max power amp and overcopensate causing their voice to sound very very bad and hard to understand.

mine was built from a old handbook and used on my HT-37. How did it work ? Well it worked fine however they are fairly complex and mine required a filter at the IF frequency since you incert it in the transmitt if chain it must be filtered before you return the signal...( the HT-37 is a balanced SSB transmitter not filtered ) and on the old heathkits which the processer was built for a heathkit filter was required not cheep even at that time ( 1979 ). Stick to audio unless you REALY want to tackle it.

I had a K 40 speech processor radio back in 91 and it worked ok but it was TERRIBLE on the noise level on RX!!!!
I also have a K 40 speech processor mike that i let a female friend of mine borrow for her jeep but i dont know if shes ever used it..
It works but it will only work good on a radio that is untuned and stock..

I have an old Superbase and I get very good audio reports with the speech compression circuit on. With it off, the radio is said to sound just like a lot of other CB radios, kind of sharp and tinny.

BTW, this old radio has one of the best receivers I have ever heard in a CB radio.

I would like to tweak it a bit, so if anybody has a Sams they could pass along a copy of, I would appreciate it.

My Kenwood TS-440 has a built in speech processor. Every time I switch it in, my audio gets really distorted sounding (to me). Other than turning the mic gain down real low, what might I be doing wrong?

I run the stock Kenwood microphone and the mic gain control stays about 11 o'clock. I speak about 4 inches from the mic and I have a lower register but slightly soft voice. The lady at the bank is always asking me to repeat myself since my voice does not punch through background noise.

the grant uses a 7.8 mhz and a 455 khz if the 455 khz channel guard is VERY VERY SHARP and will cut highs off am signls but if you need super selective @ 10 khz its many db down ...... its great!

well the 455khz channel guard will give you a +/- 5khz bandwidth then drop off very fast the marada filters that come with these radios is about the same bandwidth but the rolloff is MUCH less. i found this filter is very very sharp remember it has 3 filters on that board i dont know if they are single pole or double pole dosnt matter they get the job done......
