Owned one up until a year ago, just as good as the 148GTL, receive is outstanding, stable on frequency. only set back the counter is only 5 digit. The mother board is the same as the 148GTL, 2000GTL and the Uniden Grant XL, the Malasia model seems to be the best of all of the Cobra 148F-GTLs, although most of them were made in Malasia, The ones made in the Phillipines are as good but harder to find on the used market.

Airplane:
The only reason I turned my 148F-GTL loose was, I had a chance to own a Uniden Grant XL with a 6 digit add on after market frequency counter. If you've ever worked with a 6 digit frequency counter. The 5 digit counters have a lot to be desired when you have an open clarifier. When you have a 6 digit counter there is no guess work as to weither you're on or off frequency. Some of my fellow sidebanders that own the Cobra 148F GTLs have disabled the in radio counter and added an after market 6 digit counter, on sideband that 6th digit makes all the difference in the world.

Thanks Yankee,

I have a grant XL, Is it hard to add a counter to this radio?

I might buy the cobra 148f anyway, it`s new in the box and if they are good I might is well get it.

Thanks,
