I'm afraid we are in for a bit more of this for awhile as we head into the downward cycle of the 7 year sunspot activity. The next two years would be a great time to purchase new coax, radios, meters, amps, antennas, etc., etc. etc...

A can stick a temporary antenna up and call you if it makes you happy. My teaberry radio only has AM. If we go on HF, I can use SSB or CW instead and pick a band that will work day or night.

From the report's in the CEF Section on Contact's it is pretty much dead everywhere.

This Sunspot Cycle we are in now is quickly becoming the Monster of Past cycle's.

For a view of this 11 Year Sunspot Cycle that we are in now click on the Link Below.

http://www.copperelectronics.com/sunspot.html

This is the time when good Radio's and Antenna's and your setup will play a major part in contact's.

Radio's are still on 24/7 here and waiting for CONTACT'S.

Ya, I have to say, I am pretty much ditching 11 meters and moving to ameteur. Its way better. WHy should I waste time where its unreliable ( skip, etc.) to talk to people, when with 2 meters I can talk all over without having to wait around for skip. If it happens on my ham bands, then thats hunky dory. Ham just seems more interesting.

Jake, why ditch 11 meter? You are not gonna talk around the world with 2 meter, you see a lot of hams on this site, must be reason, right? 11 meter is just another faction of being well-rounded in radio. I have seen many ham nets less successful than the copper sunday net. When skip isnt running on 11 meter, mess with the other stuff, with a down cycle like right now, you will have plenty of time for both.

Pig, it may be that his interest is not in the friends he has made on 11 meters, he may be more interested in the radios themselves. Many people on 11 meters are there because of their friends. If you have not made any friends on 11 meters, moving to another band would be easy.

Sorry PIG, but you CAN talk around the world on 2Meter. Using EchoLink, or IRLP repeaters a Ham can talk through the computer linked internet all over the world.

Course it's not radio to radio only IS it?

Hi ca346,
Thats right, it is not just radio, once in a while they have the megalink up, and you can talk all over the state, that is about as good as it gets on 2 meter. I guess your right tech 833. But on a good skip time, it is nice talking to the same people every day, 4 or 5 states away, or in other countries.

I can get on 3840 and talk to Art Bell any time I want to. That's as good as talking outside of this world, isn't it?

I don't need a radio to talk to Art Bell--I just use "remote viewing"....
