Well so far this week (starting last saturday) has been one of those weeks.
Saturday - the Micros POS system at work failed. I got a phone call get here NOW - Micros went pop and lots of smoke from the back.
Great, Saturday, the day before Mothers Day and no POS system. Gutted the one from the saloon and got the main system up but no credit cards could be run in the saloon. Conversations with our owners (live 6 hours away) showed they had an "old" unit (Hell they're all old run Z80 CPUs) that they'd ship via Greyhound.
0430 Sunday - yep waiting for the bus. Rebuilt the main unit using the good bits from it and the shipped unit (different units but same main board). Everything working by 7am - in time for breakfast rush.
Monday - a cook and the dishwasher quit (simply no showed) so guess who spent two days doing dishes - again.
Wednesday - sick housekeeper so I spent the day making beds and cleaning rooms (can still bounce a quarter off of the beds I made).
Thursday - the Front Desk (weigh over 1000lbs) had to moved so we copuld make the doorway to the new section. Strip the POS systrem (yep the one I rebuilt a few days back), two PCs, modems, credit card machines etc. Found a veritable ratsnets of wiring.
Friday (1am) sitting on floor tidying up all the wiring and replacing eveything. Found the Printer A/B switch had failed after being used last (4 hours earlier). Bypassed so the Night Shift could print reports. 2:45 the phone rings - N/Audit has problems - everything she typed in shows the date of 10/13/04. Told her ring the Manager I dont do software (being added to my taks when we update shortly).
0530 she ring again - PC shows keyboard error when she rebooted it. Still not sure why it was being rebooted. Told her plug the ##$%^&*(* thing back in.
0633 Sitting here getting ready to go back to work for today's shift.
Ok now somebody out there make me feel better and tell me your week was worse.
The good news! I will be a grandfather before Christmas. Almost makes me feel old, until I friend told me "If being a Granddad makes you feel old just wait until you wake up and realise you're sleeping with a gradmother".

Look at it this way it really can't get much worse so it has to get better.

Well Friday was a better day. Got the music system reinstalled and it worked first time round - in all three rooms.
Todays even beter I have it off. The phone's turned off and I'll spend the day working on the two MGs.
Hope everyone elses weekend is good. |
