Could someone explain how echolink works? I downloaded it on my computer, what next? Do I need anything else special to use it? Thanks Rich |

PIG: I will try this one first. And I can't even get it to work yet..... I also downloaded the free software. It has two options (with and without a radio connection): "sysop mode"=radio connected, and "single-user mode"=straight computer microphone through the internet. When you do your set-up you need to choose which one you want. Most people are running straight computer and not using their radio, BUT... if your modem speed is slow (like mine) it will not work, because the voice keeps getting chopped off. My next option was a 'connection' of some kind between the radio and the computer. I found a cheap product called BUCOMM Rascal for about $40 that connects my radio to the computer. Now I am trying to connect between a local repeater (2M) that is 'linked' (not all are) and use ECHOLINK that way. The repeater here is 'open', but I need permission to use it, whatever that means? Hope this helps. |

Ca346, If you signal / voice is breaking up Under Tip of the Day I found: If you frequently hear gaps in the audio, even over a good connection, try enabling the Auto Sample Rate Compression option on the Audio tab of Tools->Setup. This feature helps make up for timing differences amoung different sound cards. Hope this can help. Lon Tech808 |

Thanks anyway Lon, but I clicked that one after the first six tries... still clips the audio. I am running anywhere from 9600bps to 14400bps. Model T speed. At least the COPPER CHAT ROOM works fine! |

Thanks Ca 346, I will give it a try, if anyone wants to try to hit one of my local repeaters it is 147.180. If you try that on echolink, I should hear it on my radio, right? I monitor that in the mornings about 0630-0930 MT, two hours behind most of you. |

I need more than the frequency. Give me the station id or node # and the town? and I can look it up. Hagerman, NM is not listed. There are two repeaters listed in NM with that freq. One is in Caprock, W8QD and NOT linked. The other is in Grants, WB5EKP and has a closed autopatch. Sorry. |

Ca, I was gonna ask what that node # was for, I will have to look it up and post it. I get the repeater in Riudoso NM loud too, it is on top of a mountain. The one I gave you was on Caprock, about 5 miles from Hagerman. |

Okay Rich. I still have alot to read and learn about. I'm pretty sure I can only connect radio to repeater through the internet back to repeater to radio. Ruidoso is listed with two open repeaters on it. One of them is linked. 146.9200MHz, minus offset, KR5NM, and sponsored by SBARC. INCIDENTALLY....This discussion should be moved to a HAM area before Lon or a Moderator does it for us. |
