here it is soo dead you can tune all 40 and only hear truckers talk on CH 19 a few locals on 28 and occasionally on 40 and THATS IT!!! Just 5 years ago or less there were guys all over the CB channels and there were quite a few up above 40 to talk to and now its like DEAD! Dont feel like selling all my stuff but man, its tempting at times. I talk a lot of skip and even thats getting old and the skip lately has been very poor since we are on the downward side!

Dead here almost all of the time, even on channel 19. Once in a while I hear traffic from a freeway near here, but with the wide open spaces everyone on the highway hammers down, and talks very little on the cb. Almost all my talking is skip.

26 more locals (little superbowl)
38 sideband club with monthy meetings
I have been in radio for 25 years and it is nothing like it was in the last 70's, but we still have a good group down in the B Y U.

We have one active channel. But other than that you have to wait until the weekend to have local conversation and generally the people on the local channel just talk about sex, sex jokes or are drunk. I am considering going just stricktly ham.

The locals that do talk are pretty good guys id say. Most of them are older guys that have been into CB for years. Then we have a couple of guys that claim to be CB techs and from what i hear they have screwed up a lot of radios. MY CB shop i go to has repaired pretty much 50% of all the stuff these clowns work on.. LOL

Seems kinda dead here, there were few fellas on about 23, but about all they ever talked about was there radios! ie: how they sound, i got a new amp, blah, blah. Now they are gone. 38 has a few people on it, they do carry on conversations there, but for the most part I would say it's dead here. i don't think it's because it's CB, but because it's just the way people are now a days, no time, no no how, etc. i love it though when I drive along and can speak to people. I do not know what will happen when all the older timers are gone. It's knda like this, if we don't reverence the past, there will be no future. Anyway there's my 2 cents worth.

Well Ryan,
I would hope as you mature you will consider the drunkeness and the cursing on the radio wrong and disrespectful to others. If not eventually someone will and the FCC will be knocking on your door.

Here in California Channel 38 LSB is ALIVE every day with a least 50-100 people all over the US talking at once! It's only been quiet a few times this year. I even went down to channel 13 AM (never get on AM) and talked with a guy in Alabama. (Course I couldn't understand him with that SOUTHERN DRAWL :-) )

There's about six of us that talk sideband locale.Theres also a group out of the Ames area that I talk to on sideband on 27.395.

There's one fellow around here that loves a contest. They form at three points, two with radios about a mile apart and the third is a bunch of listeners. They cut the echo all the way and key down and roll on. He's mostly the winner. They call him "Big Man" around Myrtle Beach. Usely the radio is fairly active.
As far as the South, there's nothing like being 70 degrees for 3-4 days then dropping into the 30's.

Not a whole lot here in southern California. I have a couple of locals that I talk to every now and then, when I hear them on the radio, that are really nice guys. I also got a friend of mine (Lazyboy) into radio and we talk every night. The rest are just truckers looking for directions to a truck stop. I have I-15 ten miles to the east of me and I-5 ten miles to the west of me.Skip is usually pretty good here during the day but I am normally not home to talk to anyone.

OH I almost forgot about the guy that gets drunk and tries to tell everyone that they're radio sounds funny. He says they sound distorted or pinched. But he is just pulling they're leg. Gets kind of annoying.

Depends on time of day and day of week. Naturally, weekend evenings are the times when most operators are on, however, there are some channels that have groups on in the mornings or other times of day. I wouldn't say there is a lot of activity during the day or on week-nites (often you can spin the dial and hear nothing), but there are still quite a number of folks around here that get on from time-to-time on CB.

Back in 1990/91 CB here was awesome! There were locals all over the place and just about every night after id get home from school id flip on the ol' CB and chat with the lcoals and some of my school buds until it was time to hit the hay! We'd get pretty nuts back then screwing off on the radio but it sure was a blast compared to how dead it is now......

Here in Chicago CB is alive and well. Channel 19 is always buzzing with truckers. Channels 5, 6, 11, 15, 20, and 26 are used by mostly guys like Don King, Mr. Polite, Cool and the gang, and Dr. Zulu with motor mauls and high power rigs. They bleed all over the dial all day long!!! Sometimes at night I catch some locals on 36 and 37.

It is fairly active here in the twin cities. Reg. group on 37,38 lsb and of course there is always traffic 24/7 on 19 AM. The boom years of the 70s are long gone. I remember when you could walk into any hardware store and purchase a base or mobile ant. over the counter. Anyone remember the comercials by Midland, cobra and Hygain that used to run on TV back in the 70s? You could walk your dog and spot abt 3 base ant. per block. Ah the good old days indeed. I sure miss those days attending CB jamborees and local club meetings. How abt the bumper stickers with your handle and favorate channel? Remember them? Guess a person would have to be at least in there early 30s to rember any of the boom years for cb but it sure was fun.

stateside dx on am and ssb is still fair - good from my location from sunup to sundown. as long as the 10.7 cm. solar flux numbers are above 100 and the a and k indexes are near 10 or below everything is good. northwest longpath into australia, new zealand, tasmania, tahiti, alaska and hawaii are still an everyday occurrence. power levels rarely average in excess of 100 watts pep. the only thing i don't miss is all the less prominent stations that only show up when the band conditions are running wide open. plenty of opportunities for "rag chewing" instead of the "quick exchanges" we're all used to.

the number one consideration for building a premier communications post is still "location, location, location!"

if you're sitting there on a quiet channel and you've already assumed the band isn't "open" don't forget to give a call or two. you just may be surprised what you hear. The downside of the cycle is always a good time to implement and test station improvements!

Northern California skip is sporadic. Skip opens up at about 10:00 AM PST, and lasts to about 2:30 PM. I can still talk on channels 11, 26, and the Superbowl occassionally. I've heard rumors, that all auto mobiles will be converted to a 48 volt system instead of a 12 volt system in 2006. I just hope that my 11 meter radios and amps don't become obsolete, as a result of this change, or at least I'm hoping there will be conversion kits for amps and radios provided by some company (Hopefully)in the future, to operate at this new voltage. Skip is reportedly supposed to make a big comeback in 2006, so I'm keeping all of my gear.
