I was wondering which beam antennas on the market would be a good one for the following reasons.1)Me wanting it not to be so big. 2)And for it to work real good (efficiant). I will be running my RCI 2950DX with a Afterburner Plus (two tube amp). I would like that to work real good for local talk on my home channel. Distance for local talk would be like 40 miles on a good day. In all directions. Not to be pickey but I would perfer it not to be more than 4 elemant. Also a rotar that would be able to turn it. I will probibly be putting in a 60 foot maple tree with the top of the tree trimmed. Thanks to Everyone.. FOX 73's |

PDL - 2,... you can still find them out there. Radio Shack TV Rotor,... cheap, and will turn it. My 2 cents XLAXX |

Hey Bulldog369 I have a M103 also are going to vert or horz? When it gets warm outside I am going to put it up but witch is better vert or horz. I had an astroplane type back years ago but that was just a vert antenna only it had a hoop right in the middle of it. 73's cef#189 Len |

Leonard, I have my 103's horizontal with an a99 mounted right above it. I use the a99 for local talking and the beam for dx. If you're going to be using the beam alone, then verticle would be best. 431 |

I have an I max 2000 for local talk but the only thing I do is give truck driver directions in town. CB as I know it is kinda dead in town but I have ran across some S.S.B nets in the area. So needless to say I want to put my beam up A.S.A.P when it warms up so vertical it will be. Thank you for the fast post and you as well moderator for cheking the post. Thank you for the input. 73's cef#189 Len

can't go wrong with either the pdL2 or the m103 for small size and good performance, and a rat shack tv rotor will spin them both fine. |

you should try a vquad. know someone who has used one for quite a while and he is a boomin station with 500 watts. 60 miles local distance and a good skip talker. but personally moonraker 4 i think they are worth the extra money and the bulk for sure. never had a better dx antenna |

If you put it up horizontal, expect your local signal to be degraded. When I use my beam to talk local, my signal is weak compared to my vertical antenna. |

Pig040, The local signal will only be degraded to those running vertical antennas. Anyone else with a horizontal antenna will not see that effect. |

bARRACUDA, Yes, you are correct, but it is doubtful if any of the mobiles in the area are on horizontal. Hey, did you see the horizontal mobile? I think it is called the star-gunn or something like that? Kind of cool looking. |

I used to go to CB jamborees in Denver all the time. A lot of FUN! Can you imagine if we did one just for forum members? Reckon anybody would come? Do you still like the 6900 base? Or should I ask first sargant that ? ? |

Keith, My love of radio's started back in 1962 or 63 In a Junior High School Ham Radio Club where I got my First Ham Ticket. After getting discharged from the Marine Corp's I still had several Operation's to go before I got the use of my legs back and started my First Radio Shop in middle of 1970. Lon Tech808 |

Hey man, the Signal Engineering PDL look alike(Superhawk? cant think of the name now) is anoither to consider.. Its light and easy to tuen from what i hear.. Theres a guy that lives no too far from me that runs the lightning 4 and he really likes it very much!!! Too bad the moonraker and PDL 2 are no longer being made. They go for a small fortune on Ebay and they are going for more and more each time i see them!!! Old CB stuff is really getting outragously ridicuously expensive anymore!!!! |
