I was wondering if the Lincoln is the cheapest radio for the recieve possible. I personaly don't really care about the transmit, all i care about is the recieve. I need a great sounding radio. I want to dig up stations that local nimrods can't. Affordability, and recieve quality is what I am shooting for. 73, RattleSnakeJake KSS90290 |

Rattlesnakejake I had a lincoln and did the upgrades to it including the chip switch. When done up that way it's receiver is about as good as they get. Now the magumn radios ( 257 ect) are very good for the money good receivers sound good too. If your not a ham its about the best radio out there for SSB and FM even if you are a HAM its ONE HECK of a 12 and 10 meter set. I worked my first 12 meter dx on it. |

My personal opinion is that for all around recieve you best bet is a lincoln or 2510. I've had all them galaxy's 33 44 66 saturn etc. They aren't even in the same league with a lincoln or 2510 on the recieve or transmit for that matter.Got my lincoln shipped to my door for 269.00 |

My suggestion would be the same that I put on the conversation about amps. Get a good quality radio, well built and solid. Instead of hacking it to pieces and changing it, get an amp for longer range, pick a clean amp and then buy a good quality receive amp from copper. Then your receive will go up and your output is there as well. Your radio is running the way it was manufactured to run. If you want to open it up and twist and turn on things, thats great. But remember when you were looking at used rigs, you wanted to make sure you didn't get one that someone had hacked the heck out of.......there is a reason you didn't want to. Get a pre-amp, buy a good amp. Then you can pick and choose. I have several mid line budget am rigs. I leave them the way they are, if I want more modulation, I order a D104 mic, which I did, if I want more range I order a amp, which I did. If I want to receive better, I order a pre-amp receive thingy, I did. And it makes copper happy. hi hi... I live in an area where there are several modified rigs, over punching, worbling, hacked. Very expensive rigs. I have watched (actually listened) to them have audio problems, burn outs, distorted signals. I don't tell people what I am talking on, that I run a low wattage amp, (that puts me at right what they are putting out, or better if I choose to), I get better signal reports, receive distant stations that they can't. All of this at probably half of what they have spent on the radio and the hack job they paid some desk monkey to do. They keep asking to come see this radio that I won't tell them what is, because they are sure that it is a modified ham radio. I know this makes them feel better to think this.......otherwise what would justify them dumping a grand into a radio they only use on 11 meter radio night after night. Now here is the clincher. I picked the radio up at a yard sale. Bought the amp, receiver amp, and antenna, swr meter new from copper. For near a third of what they have spent. Now if I get bored of the radio I have, I order another from copper, maybe upgrade to a nicer one. Leave it the way it is, still have the amp, preamp, mic and everthing else with out the cost of a hack job by a garage electrician. Bada bing, bada boom. Now call copper, order your stuff and always have good receive and transmit range.......... on any radio you plug in. hi hi 73 |

yes, a recieve amp would be a good idea. Should i get the magnum 257? Would this be a good investment? I like your way of thinking, Stim. Right on!!!! |
