Hello everyone this is my first thread on here so be easy on me. I have a cobra 148 gtl and someone has already been in the radio modding it out. They removed (tr24)and i am wanting to put it back in the radio but dont know the correct transistor to put back. If anyone knows the right one please let me know. Now i know alot of you are asking yourself why????? Well from my past experiences the removal of tr24 killed the sideband and made the am band splatter.I have tried all the different mods for this radio and clipping r131 made the am splatter also when i got some radio checks. Put the r131 back and tr24 and my audio was clean again. |

I know you think your missing something but 41-44 is usually dead anyway unless its really busy in DX. You should be able to slide down to 44 can you not slide up to 41? If you e-mail me I'll send you a link to the 10k switch also. If all else fails use a crystal kit I have used them for use as 10m rigs but you lose the lower channels but get up to 28.445, low on pwr but thats why they make amps. |

Fusebreaker I second Crafters opinion. The extra wiring, switch and work involved isn't worth the lousy 4 extra frequencies you will get unless you speak Spanish. Jeff, kc0gxz. |

hey thanks guys realy apriciate the help i think ill go with the galaxy dx959 i talk on 27425 and 27435 with a local group and they all run exports so it is hard to get on those channel i had a 959 and it would go from 26695 to 27965 with awsome results we use lsb a lot here in mo. i looked at expo kits but i dont realy like the idea of those . i had a 148 that would slide down to 27437 on lsb from 27455 that is realy wierd why it skips channels most of the time i could talk to the guys on 27435 but they had to slide up a little to here me i thought i could maybe install a 10kc down switch and open the clarifier and find a super slide mod channels 42 and 43 are my main channels, besides 2 meters thanks Crafter and kc0gxz 73s kc0kgs |

Fusebreaker The Galaxy DX959 has a nice transmitter but in my opinion, the receiver leaves much to be desired. Installing a Channel Guard Kit will really do wonders for its receiver. Just so you know, Copper now carries them. Other than that, you're going to like that radio. Jeff. |

Fusebreaker For a low key and full swing, try this modification. Locate resistor R264 and lift the right leg of the resistor from the board. Install a 1N4001 diode in series with the resistor, being sure to place the banded end of the diode in the vacated main board hole. This will allow you to lower the dead key and still have the full swing capability. Don't set your dead key any higher than 1.5 watts. A far as installing another final, the only advantage will be more modulation. No one will ever see a power increase on their S-Meter. Beside, if you're going to be driving a linear with this radio, a dual final radio would be too hard on it. The Channel Guard kit will tighten up the receiver. Less bleed-over and a much quieter receiver. Jeff. |
