Listen on another radio , is it squealing during TX? This gives you an illusion that you have no modulation when really it is 100% modulated because of the squeal.

Yeah 307 may be right could be a mic issue causing it to squeal.

this sounds like a shorted regulator. most likely the 754, but it could be the 473. if the 754 shorts, you have the full 13.8 delivered to the driver and finals. this will give you a carrier at the max output of the radio, which happens to be 40w for non-dx 2950's.

the best way to test for this is to put the radio in ssb. ssb should work fine since it already causes the regulator to send 13.8v to the driver and finals. notice i said -should-. murphy's law may step in and cause -should- to become -not-. but that still will not mean that the regulator isn't bad. regulator failure is a common problem in these radios, especially if the carrier is set too high.

I had the same problem with mine. All I had to do was reset the deadkey on the power button. I did a mod on mine that gave it about 10 watts more on the swing and I started having this problem shortly after that. It's a nuisance but nothing major. Just been resetting it and it's fine.

i have them, tech307 has them, and tech808 may even have them. you could email one of us or go to;

as far as replacing it you have to 1st find it, which isn't hard. it is the biggest transistor in the radio. it is mounted to the chassis very close to the power plug. you just desolder the 3 legs, remove screw and pull out trans. you then apply thermal grease(you will need this also if yu do not want to burn up the trans)to the new trans, slide into postion, screw down(must be down before soldering) and then solder to board.
