Read on the net that they are made in China. To me that raises a red flag about the quality. Anyone out there have any opinions or thoughts about Galaxy's new line of midsize radios? Take a gander: http://www.galaxyradios.com |

RUN, RUN, RUN!! That is just my opinion. But experience shows that when they go to China, it is due to labor costs and cheaper parts. Also, I was told by a very reliable source that Uniden has closed their factory in Phillipines and has now set up shop in China. So start watching your new Unidens. If that is so, buy which model you want now, before they get gone. However, I would like to hear a confirmation on that. Look what happened to Cobra. NO disrespect here, just facts. I think it is very sad that we CANNOT make these products in the USA!! Keith in Atlanta |

The new Galaxy series 919,29,79 are nearly exactly the same rig as the 949,959 except downsized to the size of a Cobra 29. The 929 and 79 add the new "Starlight" letter lighting on the face. I've had and tuned each and they do a great job. |

Thanks for the response Keith and Tech671. That is good news for people with smaller cars no doubt. I like the 979, but I really like that 93T. What a radio!! :-) |

Topten, I love my 93T. Great radio(once I get the bugs worked out).Mine sounds great, transmits great, and talks great on SSB. The only problem I've had is the faceplate lights went out and it's at Galaxy right now getting fixed. The clarifier with the rx/tx switch is the best thing galaxy ever did(that and the 6 digit freq counter).I would invest in one if you can. Just my opinion. Lyn/CEF 124 |

Whatever happened to radios made in Japan???????? Back in the 1970s almost all CB equipment came out of Japan!!! And we all know the best HI-FI audio equipment is made there..... |

RCI 2990 China is the the place to go if you want something made as cheaply as possible using the cheapest of materials. If consumers only knew what it cost to build these radios as compared to what they are buying them for, it would make them sick. And sadly, Ham radio has gone pretty much in the same direction. But then, many of todays new Hams don't know any better. They either have no desire to look on the inside of their radios or they don't understand how to work a screwdriver. Jeff, kc0gxz. |

Hey RCI 2990, I still have a Tram 23 channel mobile that works and sounds just as good as any regular cb that I have now. That is based on going down the hwy and having others do radio checks with me on different radios. Recently, while visiting family home place in SC, my uncle and I did a test and my old Tram sounded great according to him. We estimated the crow flying between 6 and 7 miles with the signal. I hope I did not wear the crow out. Reckon he will charge me for extra mileage like the rental car companies used to do? PS: RADIO WAS MADE IN JAPAN. Case closed I think. I am like you, I would love to see radios made there or here in the USA! Keith in Atlanta |

I had a Robyn SB 520-D (my all time fave retro CB from the mid 1970s!) and it was made in good Ol' Japan!!! A radio made back in 1976 or so thats still ah' rockin' all these years later!!! Try that with any radio made today! See if it lasts 27 years!!!!!! |
