i just got a rci 2950-older model-no"DX". it works very good on the lower and mid freqs but does not trans or receive from 27.4850 on up. the trans is not dead ,but can not be understood on other radios. the same for the receive-not dead, but i can not understand others. this one does have 11 meter in it. i marked the adjustments and attempted to adj it out. they didn't do any good ,so i put everything back the way it was. has something gone out or is this the way it supose to be with 11 meter in it? help-please |

Whoops, sounds like somebody discovered some tuning slugs that don't change the wattmeter when you turn them. If the PLL in this radio has been "golden screwdrivered" you need a real tech to get it back up to snuff. The procedure in the service manual calls for a frequency counter with a probe, and for a fairly high-quality 'scope, not to mention someone who can use it. It's unusual for stuff in this part of the radio to just break, but it can happen. Until someone verifies that the PLL adjustments are right, you really can't even tell. The odds favor a simple case of the "diddles". I hope the price you paid for it reflects the "custom alignment" that had been done on it. 73 |

A lot of simpler radios with just a channel selector knob can be aligned at least "close" with a wattmeter and the receiver S-meter. The 2950 just isn't one of them. A radio that only gives you 10 kHz channel steps is a lot simpler inside. Those 1/10 steps on this radio make that front corner of the circuit board a real "mine field" for screwdriver-spinners. Sounds like the radio may still end up being a good deal if you don't have to spend too much having a pro with the right tools do the alignment. 73 |
