I have a voyage vr9000 and I have it placed in my eighteen wheeler and I was hoping you could help me figure out what I could do to fix the problem. It makes 5db of noise and I know that the noise is not coming from the alternator and i know that it is'nt because when the truck is on it has 5db and when i turn the truck off the radio stays with 5db of noise day or night. If i touch the mic plug with my hand when the truck is off the noise goes off and it stays that way and I can transmit and receive just fine but if the truck is on i touch the mic plug it goes down to 0-1db but the swr reading of my antennas goes up to 2.5-3.1db and that reading stay sthat way all day. I have already changed mic's from the original mic of the radio to a diesel mic. and I already calibrated the antennas to 1.2db and the problem still continues. The next day that i turn my truck and radio on the swr is 1.2-1.3db, and after a while the swr jumps to 2.5-3.1db. I have no idea what the problem could be. i don't know of it could be a wire that is loose or something inside the radio needs to be fixed. Do you recommend i take it to a cb shop or I could probabaly fix it on my own. Iam hoping the description of the problem could help you get an idea of the problem is. I would appreciate your prompt opinion as of what I should do and I will appreciate any help I could get from you. Thanks. |

check your antenna ground at the connectors and the mirror brackets with a good ohm meter.make sure you are getting a good ground at the door hinges.put a swr meter on it and while keyed up wiggle you antenna and see if the swr goes up and down.this is a start on what to look for.Sonoma |
