Ya but i don't have that much to spend!! I don't know what to do i don't have the money for a big rotor I don't know if a Radio shack rotor that Handles masts from 1-1/3 to 1-3/4 inches in diameter Rotation time 360°: 65 (± 5) seconds (at 60Hz) Rotation torque: 160 pounds per inch Vertical load: 99 pounds maximum Thrust bearing: Handles loads up to 250 pounds maximum Gear ratio: 3100 (± 100) to 1 Wind load braking system: Up to 70mph Power source: 120VAC, 62W, 60Hz, 0.52A Motor: 18VAC (2.35A) My question is if I thrust bearing it will it be able to turn a maco comet and not burn out??? |

mr b i have used a radio shack HD tv rotor for 2 years now without a trust bearing to turn both a 20ft four element quad for 11 meter and a tv antenna with a 15 ft sch 40 mast.and have never had the first moment of trouble out of it. "and thats much more wind load/and weight than a comet is going to have". i have 5 or 6 trust bearings in the garage with my ham 4 but i didnt feel compelled to change anything at that time. but i took the tower and all down to repaint the tower and go deeper down in the ground as i plan to put back up 80ft of tower this time and a six element beam so 2 thrust bearings and the ham 4 will finally make it out of the garage.lol of coarse a thrust bearing or two would take alot of stress off the rotor and is a great idea,i was just lazy at the time and wanted it up fast. a bell rotor would be better, but you can make due with a good hd tv rotor/bearings/torque tube for a small beam like a comet or m103c,PDL2,y-quad ect. one setup you might try is from towers neck on down: sch 40+ mast/thrust bearing/torque tube/ 2nd thrust bearing/rotor. this also places rotor as close to the ground as you want, for easier access to rotor. |

i used the alinace u100 and bearing VERY close to the rad shack and it worked fine on a hygain 4 elm 6 meter beam but i think bullet is right a small cb beam if you support the rotor right should be ok worst your out 60 bucks |
