I just ordered a new Midland 79-290 under the impression that it converts to 240 channel mode and 10 meter mode all by simply pressing buttons while turning the power on. I have since found 2 statements on other forums where individuals said that this method no longer works. Are you familiar with this radio enough to know this off hand? Is there a new way to access these channels without opening up the case? Since I purchased it with the sole intent of having the extra channels, could you perform these modifications for me if it is indeed no longer capable of the easy modifications? Any info or input would be highly appreciated. Thanx so much for your time and knowledge you put forth on the forum. Big Dan |

Hey thanks for your help, but I have another question. If I did the mod to unlock the clarifier, would the frequency on the display screen move up and down to show how much I have shifted off frequency, or not? Also, if I was to do the mod as described on the website listed above, could I get the parts (resistor I think) at Radio Shack, or are they junk? Thanx, Big Dan |

Triplecguy. I don't think the freq display will track the changes, as it is a display not a true counter. I could be wrong. RS components are fine. Steve Tech181 Tech181@copperelectronics.com |
