I have just recived a used Cobra 148 That was shipped FED-EX,..... yeah you guessed it! In the shipping the power cord connection was pushed into the back of the radio breaking 2 small disc type diode/capasitor or something on the negative side of the power line going to ground. I think it protects it if hooked up wrong(or is supposed too)
I would like to know what these are and there value if possible, radio works with out them, but they must be needed. Next I want to do several things to this as I have it open, I want to open the clairifier to give me at least 7kc side down, add extra channals( mainly above 40, 28.0 is high enough) and peak and tune for optimum preformance on SSB. I will be mainly useing this(for experimental purposes) on the area of 27.425 thru 27.605-SSB. Here is the scoop on the radio as to what era for information on the "experemental modifcations"...S/N-25106, year of production-1996, it is a Malayisa model. The gentle man told me it has been "Truck Stop Peaked"...right now it is keying 7w-AM and swinging to about 14-16w-AM. Sometimes it want to go above 14-16watts but it is like it hits a wall and falls back, leading me to believe that the mod limiter is still intact.? On side band it only swings about 9-14 watts period. What I would like is to set it for about 2-1/2 watts AM+swing, but on side band I will be driving a small amp, one of two I own. It will either be a Texas Star 350HDV or my 667V. If someone could be so kind as to give me the information I need to do this it would be of great help to me. OR if one of the TECHs would like to trick it out for me...I would be willing to send it away to "REFORM" school,I would really like this method the best as I have 5 kids still at home and quiet/work time is limited..... My wife is a in-home nurse and transports clients to doctors appointment at times It just amazes some of the older gentleman, who used to talk on radio how far she talks now...She normally works about 35-50 miles from home. We have a 1985 E-150 van. The office has told her before several of the clients refer to her as "The Radio Nurse" and request her specificly to transport them for their doctors appointments. Just so they can contact me as they travel...LOL...I keep hoping someday one of them will say...Hell I have a basement full of this old stuff come take it away for me...but anyhow, How about it 307 OR 181? Want to set me up? Thanks and will be looking for the information And if either of you want to take this on...I am sure you have access to my e-mail address...Thanks Again for making a great forum like this possible...~OHIOBIKER~575~...aka->Walter
