I was given a modulator but it has a bad tube in it. The number on the tube is 8417 but everything I find points to this as a receive tube not transmit. Could someone have put the wrong tube in this thing and made it work or am I looking in the wrong places. I would really like to get this fixed cause it was my Dad that gave it to me. Sentimental thing or something I guess.

Yep, you have a black cat probably, several of those used the 8417. you can find the tube on the interent, it was used in the nice music amplifiers also, and still is. They are kinda expensive, probaly be in the 30-40 dollar range.
