I see where some ops use this on 40 meters, where do they hook on to it for 40 meters and the length of the add-on, presume a wire or 109 inch whip or? CEF795 |

If your whip is about 25 long. The A99 is half wave on 11 meter, to get that 40 meter, do the math. |

REORT I removed the whip on top and screwed in the mobile 40 meter whip..one from MFJ, it tuned up 1 to1 swr, and talked to CLEVELAND, OHIO 5/9 running 60 watts, it works good. I also tried the 102 inch whip, NO luck on it at all. CEF 795 |

Compare it to the MFJ by itself at the same height with a counterpoise. |

Not possible. 40 Meters/7 Mhz quarter wave length is about 33 feet long. 10 meters perhaps. Perhaps maybe 15 meters if you push it. But 40 Meters nahhh |

This is aimed mostly to OP "Doctor": I wonder how adding a 40m mobile whip to the top of an A99 got you low SWR and performance on 40m. That is very interesting! The internal series capacitor inside the A99 between the matching network and the antenna wire would look like an open circuit at 40m. Also, the few turns of parallel inductance at the feedpoint would look like a dead short at the coax connector on 40m. Something either very special or very wrong happened here. Please tell us more.
