Hey,does anybody know how to make a homemade mod kit?I saw a post where 307 was talkin about it. What kinda and how big of capcitor do I need and where do I solder it to?Can you use a resistor?Does it vary by radio? Thanks |

tune the radio-(1)remove jp6 in the back by the final.(2)on the bottomside of the board put a 100ohm 1/4watt resister where you removed jp6.(3) go back to the top side of the board and put a 220uf 16volt cap negitiveside of the cap torwards the front of the radio and positiveside torwards the final in the same 2 holes where you removed jp6.(3)run a wire from each side of the cap to the rf gain the old wires on the rf gain solder them together.and there you go varible power. |

This is not a dispute to previous post, but I DO NOT do it that way. Read the post under Uniden 68 with the description. The cap is a 470/25v and the NEGATIVE goes TOWARD the final. I've been doing it that way for 15yrs with success. Doesn't mean JYD is wrong, just stating I have done it differently. Don't forget the additional tuning necessary. Read the pc68 post. |

Im not laughing, those radios are fine just not 40 watts out of it! you get what you pay for in modt cases |

I have found great results doing the mod just like JYD but I also use a TIP-120 transistor so I don't burn-out the potentiometer. It goes in like this: transistor's collector to the front hole of J6, emitter to the rear hole of J6, and the base to the wiper of the variable resistor (usually a 10K pot). Everything else, just like JYD's... |

Once you install the cap and resistor you need to retune the transmitter section. As to what this does, it suppresses carrier so you may match it to whatever amp you're running without detuning the radio. |

the book says to tune it first, then add your kit. |

I'm sure the book does say that. Have you ever considered practical experience? |

jyd, your adding extra capacitance and inductance into the system, so it needs to be tuned b4 the mod, and then retuned after the mod. tuning b4 the mod gets you very close. tuning after the mod, gets you right where you want to be. it works best if you have a scope, but you can even tell a difference on a wattmeter. sometimes it will be right without any extra tuning, but.... anyway, its kind of like using your coarse and fine clarifier. also the cap should have the pos side facing the front of the radio. electron current flows from the gnd to the audio transformer. that means the driver is the neg side, and the audio transformer is the pos side, since the electrons come from gnd through the driver, through the audio transformer and audio ic, on out through the pos side of the dc power connector. |

What I mean by that jyd is practical experience...having done something for many years instead of quoting out of a book. Look over my posts and you will see that I am here to help others. You have been quick to snap at both me and Sharpshooter when both of us have been doing these things for years, SS with more experience than I. When we correct you it's not to degrade or belittle you, but to get accurate information to those who need it. Chill. |
