Getting extremely frustrated with companies that are eager to employ you until they realize that the 50lb dog with a bright red vest saying "Service Dog" would be with you daily. I do not know how many times since August, I have been in an interview that went from "when can you start" to "OH, not sure we can do that", or "Let me get back to you on that". Two even stated outright (and were reported for discrimination under ADA) that "we cannot employ you because some of our customers MAY be allergic". To top if off, Social Security denied SSDI because "I can get around with the aid of a Service Dog". This is now in the hands of a lawyer. Meanwhile I sit here, no income, lost two cars (yep the MG and the daily driver), barely holding onto a roof over my head, no radio (had been restricted to while mobile as no antenna policy for apartments). The good news is I am alive, not giving up and not letting PTSD/Bipolar issues win. I am grateful for a great fiancee (wedding sometime this year when my parents can make it out from Australia), and a never dying sense of humour. I can sympathize. I hired an attorney after the 1st denial, they'd said not one of my problems qualified me. I won (finally) because all the problems did qualify me. Still took over a year! I had a disc removed and cages put in the lower spine. A second disc had to be trimmed. A heart attack. Two mini strokes. CHF COPD Five heart stints. Seven ligaments reattachment's in left shoulder. Left knee needs rebuilt. Spurs on the neck that cause dizziness. Two cysts in both kidneys. Diabetes caused by pancreatitis. I take 315 units of insulin per day. Each day when I wake up I'm thankful I'm on the green side on the lawn. Sorry about the MG ! What yr? I had a '58 AH 73 Pressman

Pressman - this has been in the hands of the lawyer since August last year, so we keep pushing and fighting. It was a 79B roadster, with a lot of $$ in it for restoration and upgrades. It actually ended up with a mate, so I know it will continue to be well maintained. Tech237 N7AUS God made me an athiest, who are you to question his wisdom?

I'd gently push the lawyer with reminder calls. Plus a lot of them will purposely let the case tack on 18 months so your settlement adds up to 18 months minus the eight month wait period minus his fees so you end up with 75% of 12 months of pay. Then if you've filed for SSI too, there's more $. BTW, it should be tax free since it's disability insurance. BOL and don't give up! Glad your friend got the MG and not a stranger. 73 Pressman

Sending him weekly emails of the spreadsheet of Jobs applied for and results (particularly how many go absent after finding out about Service Dog). Also spoken to Local State Rep, who will push a little. Nice thing is the Rep is a Ham too. Yes, nice on the MG. I have plans to replace it when I can - maybe an MG or maybe something a little newer like a Solstice Tech237 N7AUS God made me an athiest, who are you to question his wisdom?

Sounds like a plan! Having fellow hams that can help if they will is most definitely a huge plus! I like the euro sports cars too. When I was like 13 a guy down the street had one of the tiny MGs that if you sneezed would scrape you butt on the highway. Twas a nice little car, no hp though. The boot was just big enough for a tire and a brief case. I liked the the 289 V8 Tigers too, man, what a rocket. A guy in town here bought a Miata (newer) with thoughts of a 302 FI transplant but found a company that built a Supercharger for the 4cyl. Man, you should feel the new found power. He road races and does some hobby class SCCA. 833's a car buff too. 73 Pressman

Pressman - seems that like a lot of people here in The US, you are not aware that the MG was also produced with a version of the Buick 215 V8. Aluminium block, just re-badged as Rover. Moss Motors also sells a supercharger for the B. Tech237 N7AUS God made me an athiest, who are you to question his wisdom?

Morgan was a separate entity and were built by Morgan Ltd. Fun cars, especially the three-wheelers. Most had wooden frames and a modified motorbike engine (if I recall correctly). Never owned one - outside of my budget. Tech237 N7AUS God made me an athiest, who are you to question his wisdom?

Well things got worse. Robyn and I were "offered" employment at an old employer in Baker City. We packed up, putting most stuff in storage until we had a house and went to Baker. On arrival, the job went from "we want you immediately" to "make an appointment for an interview, and then we'll see if we have anything for you". So, here we were in Baker, no home, little money and apparently no jobs. After staying the night in a motel, we contacted Robyn's mum (Toledo WA), and we are couch surfing there while we regroup, job and house hunt. Can anyone say " I can't win for losing? Simon, As your brother (in radio), it is my duty to inform you that you need to step it up, man. Quit being on 'defense' and make some 'offense'. You need to make this happen, bro. Wallowing in sorrow will get you nowhere. As much as your feelings may be hurt or whatever, it's time to slip on some pants and make things happen! Attack this like a man on a mission!! Thanks 833. Should tell you in the last week, since crashing in Toledo, I have put in over 40 applications, and looking into starting a small delivery service. I'm not just sitting here in sorrow. I wallow on here, because of the need to safely vent and get it out of my system. Tech237 N7AUS God made me an athiest, who are you to question his wisdom?

As a small business owner myself, I can tell you there is no place for self pity in a man's life. Don't fall for the pill-pushing psychologists that like to tell men that they have feelings and need to get in touch with their feminine side, etc. WRONG. Attack this like your life depends on it, because it does. It's no mystery why our grandfathers were called "The Greatest Generation". Your radio 'Mythbuster' since 1998

Hey guys ! No joke about the "Greatest Generation"! Papa was 104 when he passed and full of life's stories. If he wasn't in his field picking cotton he was at the mill weighing and loading. He was only 5'4" but a dynamo of a man. He always claimed to have never missed a day of work and retired at 80. If a Doctor had told him to get in contact with his feminine side Papa likely would have laid him out. His first car was a Ford Model T. It had all the luxuries, Black on black hand crank for a starter and dirt roads. He only drove it for Sunday Church and rode a horse to work daily. He even wore a gun on his side. They were a different breed of people ! There was no time for self. Most homes had 6 children to feed, clothe and house. 73 Pressman

Tech 237: are you a veteran? If so, it would help to increase your PTSD and other VA disabilities up to the level to apply for individual unemployability. Such an evaluation does not necessarily means you will get SSDI, but it adds probative weight to your claim. Remember that SSA can't pay disability until you have been unable to work for at least 12 months (Lawyers don't tell you that). Most first denials are based on said rule, and not on your level of disability. VA comp is now very easy to get, as they try to appease as many vets as possible. An established diagnosis of ptsd with bipolarism certainly precludes engagement in gainfull teaching and other of your skills |

Based on prior posts, I believe that you have reached the level of social and industrial inadaptability that SSA requires to award benefits. I don't know how long you have been out of a gainful occupation, but if it is less than 12 months, SSA will not budge. In addition to physical & neuropsychiatric disabilities, they also consider age, academic credentials and residual capacity to perform other jobs. This may be redundant to you, but ensure that you maintain a list of treating physicians and physical disabilities diagnosed. Above all, do not allow the anguish and uncertainty of the process to take the best of you. Some doctors are too quick to prescribe certain psychotropic meds that would worsen your condition. |
