Just seeing how many members here served in the Armed Services, I will start it off with seven years with Destroyer Task Force Desron Six US Atlantic fleet, served on five Destroyers, and was present on the Cuban Blockade around Cuba during the Cuban Missle Crissis. For three weeks then all clear head for your home port.

Karatebutcher, yes I was an airdale for my career from land based to carrier based squadrons. Worked the flight deck of the USS America during some deployments, and was ships company on the USS Inchon. The other deployments were land based but still in the Naval Aviation community. I got to do what I wanted and see the world so I reflect back in a positive light, although it was a hard lifestyle to live indeed. Glad I'm home and don't have any plans to leave :-) .

I was a radioman for 22 years, even served a year on ADAK ISLAND at an all CW radio station, 4 ops a shift except 3rd, around 200 to 250 messages a day, from all world sea going ships, even RUSSIANS and others. The hardest to copy was the KOREAN ops, they sat on the key I think to send. The longest messages were from NAVAL supply ships, civilian run< requesting supplies at ports, 5 or 6 or more pages long.. Served also as a radio operator ground/aircraft at PORTSMOUTH VIRGINIA, most excitement was search/rescue and having 4 or 5 planes or copters up at the same time.
Still due some cw on ARMY MARS or HAMSPHERE.
Meant a number of AUSTRALIAN troops while in VIETNAM, great bunch.

Air Force from 1981 to 1995. My specialty was Antenna & Cable Maintenance (primary) and Ground Radio tech (secondary). Traveled extensively (TDY's) through Caribbean islands as well as Central and South American Countries. Short tour to Korea. Worked with Joint Commands (Army, Navy and Marines). Also collaborated with ROK Army (Korea) and Royal Air Force during Falklands War (deployed to Ascension Island where there were two women behind every palm tree).
