i am trying to replace a 10+yr old galaxy dx55V that is going south on me ... the cb crowd is dwindling away in my area so i dont want to throw a boatload of money into a new radio that i only use on rare occasions ...but i dont want a plain jane cobra 19 with no features either ...i have plenty of gutless yard sale specials and radios that can barely talk across the street piled up that i dont want to use .....i want something hopefully with a large meter that is easy to read something that can be "tuned up" to be louder than stock and maybe a few more watts also....i was looking at the new uniden pc787 .i know i am asking for a lot to get more power out of a $100 straight 40channel cb will this radio make me proud and shock the socks off of me after the tune up ....or should i bite the bullet and buy a 10 meter radio that is meant to put out more watts |

I myself would buy a GALAXY , you can after a bit of adjustment get 15 to 18 watts on them, or if you also want ssb a UNIDEN 980 is a 5 star rating also, power on am 7 to 8 watts, ssb 15 watts, just my 2 cents. DOCTOR/795 73 REVPO/DOCTOR/CEF 795 Wavin a hand from the cornfields of INDIANA

thanks for all the great responses... press man, i appreciate the input and something on sale def sounds good but $300+ is too rich for my budget and i dont want the digital led meter ...i did throw the idea around for a short time of the SR497 stryker but it is just too many bells and whistles for what i need and is also $300+ i dont want anything with SSB because no one around me uses it and i wont use it ...why spend extra for a higher model to get something that i will never use i just need a radio that will run 11METER band and be heard preferrably with a large ANALOG needle meter and bone stock 4WATT 60%audio is not for me i am willing to spend a fair amount if it meets my needs whether it be a 11 METER only or a 10/11 METER rig |

Pancake; Howdy! Check this out, $40 off and good stuff. Tunable, easy to modify. Add a TVI trap and maybe an amp behind it like the KL-200P or KL-300P and assuming you'll use your 1/4 wave whip you'll have a nice flexible set up. http://www.copper.com/cart/Radios/CB-Radios/Mobile-CB-Radios/Cobra-29-LX-Harley-Davidson-CB-Radio http://www.copper.com/cart/Antennas-Towers/CB-Antennas/Base-CB-Antenna-Accessories/DF3000-3KW-Low-Pass-Filter 73 Pressman

Pancake what's wrong with your Galaxy 55, might see about getting it fixed. Those are tough old radios, I know some that's been running in dump trucks 15-20 years. Sounds like the Uniden pc787 you mentioned fits your needs pretty well. It will tune up and do as well as these others mentioned unless you wanna spend 250-300 bucks. Not gonna see much difference in a few watts anyway, if it's not loud enough get a power mike. Just my thoughts. Scrapiron CEF 108 |
