Does anyone have the dimensions of all parts and a diagram of the switching unit? I want tom play around and see if I can re-scale for other bands.

Tech237, I hope you are joking about being an athiest.

I wish some company would produce that super scanner again. I'd like to see a company make them to order for any band. I'd love one for 10, 6, 2 meters.

God is Love

Well if I can find the information I need, I may just do that - on a make as ordered basis.

I assume they are a dipole type radiator with a switchanle phasing harness, but do not know for sure as I have never got my hands on one.

Tech 237, I've got the instruction manual for the super scanner in a PDF file, can email it to you if that will help.

I owned one one time. It is three dipoles with a switching mechanism. I figure someone could just run 3 mini 8 coax and switch from dipole to dipole. I think there is a place online to see a copy of the manual. I loved mine. Got blown down in a storm. It really shines on out there in the distance. Putting up an Imax tomorrow, Lord's willing. I have painted it with green, black and sand colors making it fit in with the background of the woods. Will be up about 65 or 70 feet if all works out.

Mike, there is a little more than that - the coaxs must be certain lengths for the switching pattern to work correctly.

As luck would have went to a CB shop near work during my lunch and ended up with a manual including diagrasm for both the control box and the relay setup at the antenna. I still need measurements for the coaxes at the antenna.

Tonight, I'll hit the drawing board and slave over a hot calculator and see what I can come up with, that is different enough to prevent any possible copyright issues.

833 - once I have a prototype fancy test ranging it??

Tech237, I hesitate to say this, but I have had one now for about 7 years, brand new in the box, still have not opened the box, and still do not know when I will get it put up. I have even considered selling it so someone else could enjoy it.

Simon,
A.S. used 2 different switching setups,1 contained a phasing stub(ver.1).The other just grounded the un-used elements to "act" as reflectors(ver.2).The elements were simple dipoles on both with rg-59 coax to match them, that is why the instructions emphisised not cutting them. The quich way to tell the difference between ver1 and 2 is the control wire, ver 1 used 4-wire and ver 2 used 3-wire.

Simon and I have exchanged many emails about this.

The first version did not have omni capability. Second version did.

Both versions are basically 1 fed dipole with 2 reflectors when in directional mode.

I have owned three of these antennas and I was never very impressed with them. My Maco three element beam was a whole lot better, so I ended up giving the super scanner away. To each his own!!!!

In order for a Super Scanner to perform well, it needs to be way up in the air. Minimum 40 feet AGL for the pattern to look even somewhat acceptable compared to a quad or yagi.

But, what they were designed to do, they did very well. That is, give directional performance without a rotor. Mostly for rejecting unwanted signal, not for out and out gain forward.

Tech237,
Did you ever make any progress with your version of the Superscanner?

I owned a Superscanner back in High school and absolutely loved it. I used a Superstar 3900 as a base; a Roadrunner 175 amp, and occasionally a D&A 300w amp.
My Superscanner was about 30' up on a push up pole. I was very pleased with its performance and wish I would have kept it

Richiek - do to personal issues (health, family, work) it got backburnered, but is still on my "play" list now that things are settling down.

Tech237,
I hope all goes well with you. If you can, keep us informed if you ever get it off the "back burner". I would be interested in hearing about it.

Well Tech 237 and RK, maybe this will inspire me to get out the super scanner that I have and open the box and at least look at it. Then maybe I will get it put up this spring. With business travels, I just do not have time to monitor and talk on a base station like I used to. that is the major reason why I never put it up. Oh well.
Have a super weekend everyone.
