cbtricks has the service manual for this radio and the bad part is you can not read the portions of the circuit you need. they are so light you can not read them. at least I can not. from what I remember they hook to the front panel off a dimmer button. |

On the front center of the radio where the display is there is a CPU board. On the left side and the right side on the end of the board about half way up you might find the black wire's where he had done the clipping. This is where the wire's go for the meter light wire's go. I think this is what your question is---light wire's for the meter's Right? |

I guess you have no display light's as well. I will try to get back with you later after I refresh my memory. I will have to look to try to give you some more information.I know that the same board will control the brightness. Check to see if he has any plug in hanging lose on either the main board or the CPU board. Also, has he cut the plastic tie's that goes around the connection cable's that go between the main board and the CPU board? If he has cut the tie's then he more than likely not only disconnected a plug in but also he more than likely got rid of the connection cable completely. If you have a friend that has a 2985dx or a 2995 dx or a 2990 you could get a better idea of what he had done by looking at the two radio's. in comparison. These radio's I have mention have the same hook up's. Last but not least if I or other's fail in trying to help you then you can always send it to RCI or call Copper for information of who can do a repair. This is a sensitive radio so be careful. |

3wheller, Is your display working? I did a little looking and when you have the top off the radio and you are facing the radio. On the far right side front corner of the main circuit board is a two wire plug. I think one wire is red and the other is orange. This plug will give the complete function of the display and the light's and other function's of the CPU. In other word's it is the power source for the CPU. Now for the light's and the use of the push button's there is on the left side of the CPU you will find a multi-wired jumper plug that goes from the CPU to the circuit board of the push button's. Now I do not know if on your radio he had done any clipping or what so you will just have to look or like I said before send it to the repair shop at RCI or Contact Copper. I hope this will give you an idea of where to look for your problem. Have a great day and I pray you find your problem. |
