Crazy question about Magnums P03-00004 XLF 20C 3 Pin Filter Cord. Can these go bad over time? I have several of these in my vehicles and they worked great. I have since moved 2 of them from the original vehicles and into 2 different vehicles and the radios are picking up engine noise now. So can these go bad after a while? Thanks for any help... How old are they? Could be the filter has gone bad or you may need a better ground. I would suspect the ground first since they were OK till moved. 73 Pressman

turn on the radio and the vehicle then unhook the antenna from the back of the radio and see if the noise goes away. if it does the noise is coming in threw the antenna and the power cord filter will not help you. you will have to work on the grounding of your vehicle to correct it. |

Tomcatinva - what sort of engine noise? If it is the whine from the alternator, it is most likely coming in via the power cord, and a different filter may help. If it is the pop pop of spark plugs, then it is more than likely coming in via the antenna, and a power-line filter will not help at all. There is an article on RFI in Subscribers> Articles that may help you. Tech237 N7AUS God made me an athiest, who are you to question his wisdom?

Thanks guys for the responses... the filters are kind of old (relatively speaking) about 6 maybe more years. But the sound is kind of like a spark plug/ignition noise, it’s definitely not a whining noise. I’ll check out that article on RFI… Thanks Again!! TomCat in VA CEF217
