I have a Ranger 6900F150 that has great audio. I would like to get more bass from my signal output. I am looking for a professional broadcast quality signal. Is there a mic that can produce this type of signal? Thanks, Robert 2VA524 |

Look for a Mic with a built in equalizer. The only other suggestion I have is to get a "software defined radio". Stretch that signal wider and you will sound great. Everyone will hate you on the band for being so wide, but you'll sound good. |

heck, do what I do on my Ham radios. I have an old 2w equalizer from a car stereo system wired up, with the mic on one channel and the radios outpu on the other one. I needed to tweak and reduce the radios mic gain a tad, but works great, and have plenty of good comments on the audio. This included one VK call that comments about no movement on the S-meter, but he needed to tuern the volume down on his receiver. If you want "Broadcast quality" audio, you need to use the same kind of mic the broadcasters use. I use an RE-20 with my Kenwood and it does sound like broadcast quality. The Shure SM-7 and Electrovoice RE-20 are the two most common mics you find at a radio station. I'm not familiar with your radio, but you may also need to re-size some components in your mic circuit to allow more low-end to pass. Keep in mind, most receivers don't have electronics or speakers that will pass much low end, so a lot of the energy you transmit would be wasted on a CB listening to you. Your radio 'Mythbuster' since 1998

Thanks guys. I checked and the frequency response of my radio is from 300 to 2500 hz. In checking other radios I find this is about average. I will check on the mics you suggest here. Not into doing any internal mods, so beyond the mic change I will consider the use of my laptop and a audio program to produce the type of audio I am after. |

Well I haven't given up the search for a better mic. I have a Road King 56 on the way now. From the tests I've heard on Youtube they sound much fuller than my stock mic. I know this is not the high dollar sound I am after, but maybe a good compromise. They sound like a power mic. I am just guessing that they use more of a coil in the mic element that makes for more output. Am I right??? Any other mics for about a 100 bucks or so you guys can suggest? Also. The youtube mic tests are very informative. You get to hear the mic there. What better way to sell an item than that. Maybe Copper could list some of their items there to drum up more business??? Just a thought. Looking forward to my new mic and any other info from you guys. Thanks again, Robert 2VA524 |

YouTube mic tests are only as good as the PC audio systems involved, and personally I wouldnt give them too much credit. The only real test is using it on air, listening to the auio on another radio.; Tech237 N7AUS God made me an athiest, who are you to question his wisdom?

If you want that HIFI sound from your cb radio, your radio needs to be modified to pass wideband audio, not that hard to do, then you'll need a studio mic, preamp and the xlr ptt switch made, there other forums that show you how its done, then maybe later a EQ and compresser inline with that preamp and it will be sweeeeet |
