Tech 833 0r any other tech. I can't remember if it is the resistor end that goes to R-292 OR IF it is the diode end that goes to R-292. I know that the end that is left goes to ground. I have a new radio coming in soon and I need some help. |

I just want everyone to know that I had finally found the document's where the Inspector had sent to me on the SUPER SWING MOD FOR THE RCI DX RADIO'S. THANK'S ANYWAY. |

Those RCI radios are pretty solid. They have some DSP built into them. They should modulate fully just fine. I would be afraid that a "swing kit" would destroy the sound. If you overmodulate your ssb will be worthless. |

I have had the Rci 2950 + 2985+ 2995+ 2970n2 and in these radio's I have installed the npc (swing mod) in these radio's. With this mod you can swing from one watt dead key to full power. It does not destroy the sound. Now if a person were to put a power mike on the radio and run the modulation wide open on both the radio and the mike , of course you will over modulate and could not be understood. I run the stock mike with these radio's with no problem on people understanding me and my report's bot local and dx tell me the modulation is perfect on tone quality and loudness. This mod came from a tech on here. They will not tell you wrong. I have had the rci radio's since they had started being sold. I suggest these radio's for anyone. |

I own a 2950 as well. Great product. I guess it could work. I would just watch my microphone gain. Do you run SSB with that mod? |

Audiophile73, Yes, I do run this mod for ssb. I have had no one give me a bad report on the modulation on ssb or am and I have asked plenty of operator's to tell me. On my 2950 dx and the 2985 dx I set my dead key on two watt's. But, 0n the 2995 dx and the 2970n2 I had to set the dead key on three watt's. For some odd reason these radio's soud better with a little bit more dead key on am. On ssb for local I run the power on the lowest setting but for skip I turn the power wide open to get the max on swing. Do not turn the rf power up any on am for that is real hard on the radio. With this mod I never run anything but a stock mike. But if you choose to run a power mic, turn the mike gain down for it is just too much modulation. For my 2995 dx and my 2970n2 for local talking I run my mic gain on six. That way the radio will only put out about fifty watt's swing and the modulation still sound's great. Of course for skip I run the mike gain on ten and the radio then will swing from three watt's to about one hundred and fifty watt's. On side band the swing will go to about two hundred watt's. I would not tune the radio for more than that. The npc mod (swing mod) I got it year's ago from a tech called the inspector. I think tech 833 also put the same information on this forum. I hope this will help you with your radio's and I hope you enjoy your hobby as well as I have. |
