I have an old Alinco 77 DX HF that has been giving me problems. It does has RF output on some bands: 40 Meters - 25 watts 80 Meters - 4 watts 160 Meters - 20 watts so i don't think it is the final output amp stage. But it has essentially 0 watts RF output on all other bands. I suspect that the filter board is the problem since I don't hear the relays kicking in and out as they should when sweeping through the bands. Alinco discontinued this model and as such a replacement filter board is not available. Does anyone know a good approach to trouble-shooting this problem, I am hoping it is a case of sticky relay contacts or bad relay coil and not the bits strings sent by the processor that control the relays. I am fairly confident that it can be fixed but at what cost if it is not by me. I do have the schematics for the radio and I do have basic bench equipment(scope, signal generator, logic probe)Any advice would be appreciated. Ideally, I would like to do it myself. I kinda like the rig, it work well as a mobile. Albeit I have my I on the ICOM IC 718 or a used Yaesu 757 that a buddy might be willing to sell me. Any suggestion on a good HF radio at minimum cost. I also debating including 2 and 6 meters but line-of-sight does not really intrigue me, any suggestion with respect to a decent HF/2 meter/6 meter radio that won't break the Bank? Thanks |
