Have a Superstar 3900 single final. Keys up, but no audio or modulation at all. Am and ssb as well. Not the mic.

This may seem like a stupid question as most people would have checked already and you may have, but I have to ask did you check the microphone conections inside the radio, pretty easy for them to come loose sometimes, thats what was wrong with mine,...Hope this helps... also does the radio have audio as far as recieve goes....??????????

They seemed to be ok. It recieves great. When you key it up the hand tries to move barely, but hardly any at all.

It just happened at once. Did not have any unusual characteristics before this. I may just take it to a local tech and get him to fix it before I screw something up, but thanks for your replies.

That was going to be my next suggestion actually, lol if one of the Oscillators went out or went horribly off frequency you'd have to have certain equipment to test and fix anyway, sorry we couldn't figure it out, good luck with it..

Perry,
This is a common issue. If recieve works and you can hear the recieve like normal, radio keys up just a little... Sounds like the RF final needs replaced. You might want to replace the driver transistor also. Its an easy fix but before you hook it back up I would go over the antenna installation. Check the whole coax/antenna/mount assembly for damage. You could have a short somewhere, could be from moisture in the coax or even a pinched coax, possibly a faulty connector. A short will without a doubt cause rf final failure. A very high swr is a good indicator of a short. Also,be sure that the radio is tuned within its operating limits and it will last forever.

Is replacing the driver and final as easy as it sounds or do you have to do an alinement to? If its as simple as soldering the new ones in then I have a 3900 that needs a new final and driver.
What about the ERF2030 finals in a SS 3900???
