Having an issue thats really bugging me.I have a rangemaster 350HD older amp that has 2 toshiba 2879 pills.I am runing A DX 55V and A Maco V 5/8 ant. My problem is that its really not showing any DB increase to anyone. but on my pyramid 36 amp power supply it is pulling very close to 30 amps on low.Seems like if its pulling that many amps it should show a considerable amount of differance.I hooked it up in the mobile to see any changes and it does make a differance.Just wondering if maybe I have a coax issue or something, would appreciate any feedback.... |

Interesting .....
30 amps you should be near 300 watts input about 150 out.
If the radio is running 10 watts you should show about a 2 "S" units gain .
Is this what you are seeing ?

Its weird Bruce the only thing it seems to do is take the swing out of my signal with no increase in S units but in the mobile (which is a DX 44) it shows a 3-4 change in DB.I am aware that a mobile on the ground compared 2 an antenna '45 in the air is differant but I would think it would still make a differance.... Thanks... |

Remember to see one DB gain on the other end you need 600 watts |

There are 6 DB in one "S" unit
To go up ONE "S" unit on a good meter from a 4 watt radio you need to go to 16 watts 2 units would take 64 watts .....
NOW CB "S" meters are not all that good so you never know what one might read ....

MOST amps are not very linear I would think that could be the problem ... also "S" meters are a joke on many radios.
Measuring gain is not easy to do a small change can screw things up .....EVEN as low as CB is
On 440 mhz which we use at work that is a real problem and cause lose of hair or even a few brain cells.

well said bruce.also if they live close say
less than 20 miles sometimes you maynot see
changes in signal.what bout audio can anyone
tell your audio changed.for best results i found
is go mobile and turn down rf gain all way DOWN.
then drive away till ya about lose signal then
have someone on your base turn your amp on.then
youll see for yourself wheather it works or not
and how it sounds.while this may seem crazy it works really well.
