Hi there Streaky
Well to both questions that you posted (So239 and pl259) Humm how can i answer this! I will start off by saying the so239 and pl259 will outlast the common coax such as rg8 or 58u and others, The connectors will handle the power but the coax would suffer damage first. To be honest iv heard stories of 10kw or more but was useing hardline coax. Thats a bunch of power and rf . Also im not shure how they connected hardline to pl259 and so239 but thats what i heard, Maybe someone knows if so tell us how they did that?

Would be using lmr 400 so I think that part of the of the picture will be OK but still need to know the power handling of the pl 259

Streaky, Its hard to say how much any particular coupling can handle. Of course cheaper parts are not going to hold up as well as good parts like the Amphenol brand.
Say your using Amphenol connectors. The connection is tight and corrosion free. You should be able to run all the wattage you want, whatever the coax can handle before it burns up.
Now if your connectors are poor, not soldered correctly, loose and corroded dirt and moisture getting in there, the connection is going to cause resistance. The connection is going to get hotter and hotter as you apply wattage and eventally the connection will fail.
So depending on how well you make the connection determines how well it handles power.
The properly installed PL-259 will handle more wattage than ANY LMR 400 coax.
As far as the exact number I don't think anyone knows.
When the PL-259 was invented it was never intended to be used for RF. It started out as a power coupling.
