this radio the radio recieve cuts out completely makes kind of a motorboat sound...if you try to transmit while its "siezuring" the transmit/recieve light blinks red/green really fast while "motorboating" if you smack the radio it will return to normal....for a while...please help...i have fixed serveral cold solder joints....but that hasnt fixed the issue...... |

Possible problem with the VCO slug in the can being loose,therefore it won,t be able to stay locked on the PLL,try adjusting the slug just a bit and see if it settles down, if it does than try a little nail polish to lock it in place.

tried the vco.....still has issues...also noted that am is the only part that it happens on..if its "siezuring" if u go to fm its fine back to am its screwed.....i dunno guess ill give it back to the guy...some trucker went crazy on this one....coils smashed flat with what looked to be a hammer....cold solder joints....mod limiter cut....etc etc.....pretty much a train wreck of radio.....trucker sold it to this guy told him...and get this....it would deadkey 165 and swing 400.......a general lee......what a fool.. |

There is a resistor bank up near the channel knob. Looks like a long black thing with little "nibs" in it. 8 or 10 if I remember correctly. You might want to check there for your solder joint problem. Chances are you still have a solder problem and that is all. I had one with a similar problem and used a heatgun to reflow areas instead of a iron to do pinpoint work. Just a thought though. |
