First let me introduce myself since I am new to this forum. My real name is Jay and I'm from Northeast Pennsylvania. I've been involved in the hobby for about 13 years. I currently own a RCI 1980 and a Uniden HR-2510. A few days ago I made my first purchase from Coppers. I got myself a RCI 2950 DX with the 11 meter mod. The question I have is, will the clarifier be unlocked on this radio when I get it or will I have to have this done by a tech? If I need to have it done can someone recommend a good tech in my area? This seems like a great forum and I'm looking forward to spending some time here when I'm able to.

Dexter30, WELCOME TO THE COPPER FORUM! The Coper Tech that does the Modify for 11 meter and Tune Up: will not modify the clarifier. Ranger is VERY STICKY on Warranty work and Modifying the Clarifier wiil void the Warranty on it for you. On a side note I own the 2970DX and 2995DX and the 5054 DX-100 (just like the 2950DX except 6 Meter) and have never found any reason or need to modify the clarifier on any of them. They work Great right out of the box and I am sure the 2950DX is the same. When you get the chance check out the topic in the Open area of the forum titled: CEF RADIO CLUB WANT TO JOIN We would enjoy adding you to the CEF Radio Club Membership List. Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN

Bulldog, that's exactly why I asked my question. In my area a lot of people float around and it can be hard to find that middle ground without the clarifier unlocked. I have some experience in electronics so I would appreciate your sending me the mod. If I feel it's above my ability than I'll just leave it to someone else. Thanks for the reponse guys.... |

Hi Jay and welcome to the forum. The tuning steps on the 2950DX are 1 MHz, 100 KHz, 10 KHz, 1 KHz, 100 Hz. with the 100 Hz you really won't need to have the clarifier opened up. The tuning is very much like a VFO, other than you use the up and down buttons and switch button to make the adjustments. I think you'll be really happy with the radio as it is. But I know some people don't like pushing the switch button to change the tuning steps from 10 KHz to 100 Hz to clarify a few people in. Honestly it's only two pushes of a button to switch from 10 KHz to 100 Hz tuning. It's up to you, but honestly at 100 Hz fine tuning you can pin point anyone anywhere, and opening up the case to modify the claifier and voiding the warrenty in the process is in my opinion just not worth the trouble or risk. Best regards and hope you like the new radio. Bob |

Hi Bob p. The problem with using the vfo is that it will also change the tx frequency. This could easily become a problem for people on the rx end that have a stock ssb radio without the clarifier unlocked. At one time I owned one of the first 2950's (not the dx model) and the unlocked clarifier really helped. I love my new radio and can't wait to spend some time talking on it. |

Well if you Can't use the VFO because it will change the TX frequency then why would you want the clarifier unlocked as it will do the same exact thing. Im confused? |
